Okay so...

Here is a copy of my visual diary, I scanned in each page of my diary, it's easier to send around and then you can look at it on here and hopefully you get an insight into the event, how I work and what inspires me. I have the origional copy also. The brief was to create an event for River Island which will attract their missing market and also gain publicity. Our event is titled "Lightbox" it is an installation which is a giant lightbox, people come in and create shadows out of themselves, objects and River Island clothing. This is just a brief explanation, the blackboard group discussion forum explains more details and shows the ideas that have been discussed between the group. (group 10)

PR video "Lightbox"

Here is our PR video for the brief, a short stop motion piece giving you an insight into the kind of thing you can expect to get from the event! It took forever, I cut out each of the letters individually and we had to place them on one by one and take a picture after we did so.

Start...

brainstorming initial ideas from the first lecture....notes from the first tutorial with Gail
starting to visualize some of the first ideas

I really love how you can see the development and change in our event throughout this sketchpad. I love how ideas grow and change and get influenced and become something!
thinking about games to play at the first idea of having a sort of fete/ country fair event...THIS IS WHAT GOT IT ALL STARTED! I'm so glad that I showed this to Gail and the girls. It's what got the ball rolling! Ha ha, yeah this is where the idea of shadows came from- here I am discussing the idea of having it as part of the fete in the corner somewhere on a washing line. I love how now it has taken place- I feel very proud and like it is my own!
discussing music here for the fete idea...
2nd tutorial with Gail...
Thinking outloud (well with a pen... :-S)
notes from Tammy's lectures safety pinned here- i like putting them in- you can see when something has really triggered and idea and also I really like going back and looking at all the little websites that ive underlined a million times or drawn an heart round etc. they're also just quite nice to have a look at- you can see when im having a good/ bad day, really enthused by something and so on from my hand writing! the other side is a brainstorm of things to include for our event, and just general thinking about adding things etc...

"You're in my top 8 friends" inspired me to look at social networking- reminded me of myspace and facebook- displaying all your "fave" friends etc... something to definately use for advertising the event also on the other page a wicked mish mash of style that I could imagine happening in style competitions if we were going to have one- just because they seem to be wearing everything! And I love the dog, of course!
looking at present art combined with fashion, general ideas, jotting downs, looking for any inspiration really....
"NEST" A group of people have created a live installation- came across them in iD mag, its pretty rank but the ideologies that lie within it are really cool and actually really inspiring of our event. They gather a large group of people together, create an absolute bomb site out of a room by shredding paper, littering, writing on the walls, being sick every where, water fights, urinating and so much more disgustingness but yeah, at the end they collate photos together of the event. Basically I guess I'm linking it with the idea of a LIVE installation where they get people to join in creating it, a sense of community within the installation and then collecting photos at the end to keep memories of it. Pretty cool in a really gross horrible way (see below for a pic & more writing!)
found an event at 60million similar to what we were origionally going to do...an interestsing read and some collecting of river island gift vouchers to get an idea of their colour scheme etc...

looking for inspiration- things that caught my eye that made me think of the event/ what it could look like
i saw this event that takes place in bournemouth, it has 6 venues and one ticket- i just thought it is something to think about- what about having a lightbox in 6 different major cities and then collating all the images- obviously this would not happen on our budget but the concept is always a nice thought!
more ideas looking at venue etc....

notes from Tammy's lectures....

and more notes....

just a little update on how its going, found a pretty sweet picture of a girl skipping- i love how the photographer has captured movement here maybe something to think about in our installation!? and on the other side starting ideas of how the box is going to look!

Researching LYNDON WADE after Tammy showed us his "Room 107" just because its a different story in the same room. each photograph shows how they have left their mark in the same room but it is a completely different story. it reminded me of how each person is going to create a completely different shadow and create a completely different conecept in the lightbox in each photo. check out the whole of room 107 here, http://lyndonwade.com/ ,its brilliant.
some more ideas blah blah blah, i like how my hand has gone all wierd from when I moved it on the scanner!
researching into artists that have used light and shadows in their installations...Matt Coors a student that has created a mobile of small cut out shapes that create shadows... i think it is a nice idea but i think it looks a bit muddled up- i like the use of colour lighthing though
Christian Boltanski on the left page (click the image to see it bigger) and on the right Simon Heijdens has created a really simple and beautiful piece called Light Weeds.
Kubus here by Metronmad @Paul Lobe Haus in Berlin. This inspired the main frame of our structure to be a cube... and then on the other page an image of the main structure and some notes about it....
MY FAVOURITE ONE!!!! I found a piece by Philip Worthington called Shadow Monsters. The concept is fantastic and the way he has created it is unreal. People cast shadows which then grow hair, spikes, eyes and basically the whole idea is that it creates the way a child is feeling when it is been put to bed, and thinks a monster is in the room! the room has audio of growls and grunts too! its brilliant
